This year, our annual cadaver course—organized by UZ Gent, TerBrugGen, and UZ Leuven—will take place on January 30th and 31st, 2026.
The focus of this year’s course will be massive rotator cuff tears and scapular disorders.
This comprehensive course will feature state-of-the-art lectures, cadaver demonstrations, hands-on physiotherapy sessions, and cadaver-based surgical workshops. The program is designed to address the management of complex rotator cuff tears and scapulothoracic joint disorders, with a strong emphasis on the principles, surgical techniques, and outcomes of tendon transfers around the shoulder and scapula—including advanced arthroscopically assisted procedures.
We will also explore alternative salvage options, such as reverse shoulder arthroplasty and scapulothoracic fusion. A key component of the course is the opportunity for participants to perform tendon transfers on whole-torso and upper-extremity cadaveric specimens.
For physiotherapists, there will be the possibility to observe during the cadaver workshop and join the workshop. In this workshop, they will learn how to elicit the synergistic action of the muscles around the scapula—based on the latest insights—without giving explicit instructions. They will learn to select and adapt exercises that naturally stimulate the serratus anterior, without the patient needing to consciously focus on the scapula and get hands-on with exercise formats that engage the serratus anterior in functional movement patterns, based on motor learning principles.
We are pleased to welcome a distinguished national and international faculty, who will share their expertise throughout the course.
